256GB SSD has some of the best value when it comes to this category of products. This space is considered perfect for most mainstream users as you can have your Operating System, and even a few of your most-used applications, or games in it. If you are out there choosing an SSD and are not being able to decide on which size you should get. Then, it might be a good idea to opt for a 256 GB SSD. Being an SSD these are obviously fast and are very much affordable as well. 256GB SSD price in India starts from around 2300 INR.Â
Due to these reasons, it is a great pick for almost anyone. But, how do you choose which SSD 256GB should you be going for? Well for that there are certain factors that you should look for, and also understand what your requirements are. These factors include the form factor, interface, and also budget.
Form Factor
SSD can either be in a 2.5-inch form, an mSATA, or an M.2. However, for most desktops, only the 2.5-inch and M.2 are relevant. A SATA M.2 256GB SSD is a tad bit more expensive than a 2.5-inch SATA 256 GB SSD. The performance of both SATA SSD and M.2 SATA will be similar. However, the difference is in terms of the form factor. M.2 SSD requires no cables and plug directly into the M.2 slot on your motherboard. Whereas, for 2.5-inch, you would need a SATA cable, and a power cable as well.
Interface Type
The two common interface type you get with SSD is SATA and NVMe. In terms of performance, an NVME SSD would beat a SATA SSD any day. That does not mean SATA is bad by any means. It is still a lot faster than any standard hard disk out there. But, it is nowhere close to that of an NVME SSD.
Budget and Requirement
However, one thing that needs to be kept in mind is that SATA is significantly cheaper than NVMe. For example, for a 256GB M.2 SSD or SATA SSD, the price in India starts from about 2300 INR. Whereas, the price of 256GB NVME SSD starts from around 2800 INR. So, if your requirements include the best performance you can get, and budget is not an issue, then NVME is the one you should be going for.
But, if you are looking for an SSD that is just fast, and does not need to be the fastest, then a standard SATA SSD would be more than enough.
