Features of NOCTUA NH-D9 TR5-SP6 4U Dual Tower CPU Air cooler
Proven heatsinks for AMD Threadripper & Epyc
First introduced in 2017, Noctua’s Threadripper and Epyc coolers have become a standard choice when it comes to quiet, premium grade air cooling solutions for AMD-based workstations and servers. Thanks to their superior acoustic efficiency, they are ideal for Threadripper and Epyc systems that run in noise sensitive environments (e.g. audio/video production, content creation, engineering, etc.)
Enlarged contact surface
At 70x56mm, the heatsink’s copper contact surface is more than double the size of the standard desktop model. Tailored to fit the enormous integrated heat-spreaders (IHS) of AMD’s sTR5/SP6 based processors, this customised design allows for an optimal heat flow from the CPU over the base to the heatpipes and on to the cooling fins
Compact 92mm size for best compatibility
Thanks to its compact footprint (95x95mm with centre fan only, second fan can be installed on either side depending on available space) and a total height of only 134mm, the NOCTUA NH-D9 TR5-SP6 4U provides excellent PCIe compatibility and is small enough to fit most 4U size rack-mount enclosures
Airflow parallel to long axis of the socket
The NH-D9’s direction of airflow is parallel to the long axis of the sTR5/SP6 socket, so it is ideal for systems where the exhaust fans of the chassis are in this direction. For systems that require the airflow to go perpendicular to the long axis of the socket, please choose the NH-U14S TR5-SP6 or adapt NH-U12S DX-4677 and NH-U9 DX-4677 coolers using the NM-TR5-SP6 kit
Dual NF-A9 HS-PWM fans
The NH-D9 TR5-SP6 4U is equipped with two of Noctua’s award-winning NF-A9 PWM 92mm fans in their high-speed 2500rpm HS-PWM variant. This push/pull dual fan configuration makes it possible to achieve a level of cooling performance that is remarkable for such a compact cooler
PWM support and splitter cable
The NF-A9 premium fans supplied with the NH-D9 TR5-SP6 4U support PWM for convenient automatic speed control through the motherboard, which allows them to run near silent at lighter loads and to speed up only when necessary. The supplied splitter cable makes it possible to power and control both fans simultaneously from a single motherboard fan header
SecuFirm2 mounting for TR5-SP6
The NH-D9 TR5-SP6 4U combines the proven basis of the DX model with new mounting brackets for AMD’s sTR5/SP6 socket. Installation is just as easy as with the previous TR4-SP3 models: Put on the heatsink, fix the four spring-loaded Allen key screws using the supplied tool and you’re done
Pre-applied NT-H2 thermal compound
Noctua’s much-acclaimed NT-H2 is a pro-grade TIM solution that provides minimum thermal resistance and outstanding long-term stability. Having the paste pre-applied to the heatsink base ensures optimal bond-line thickness and saves precious time in installation. Ideal for system integrators
6-year manufacturer’s warranty
Noctua products are renowned for their impeccable quality and outstanding longevity. True to this legacy, the NH-D9 TR5-SP6 4U heatsink is built to last, and like all Noctua fans, the supplied NF-A9 units feature an MTTF rating of more than 150,000 hours. The entire package comes with a full 6-year manufacturer’s warranty

Frequently asked questions
1. Is NOCTUA NH-D9 TR5-SP6 4U PWM or DC?
The NOCTUA NH-D9 TR5-SP6 4U is equipped with PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) fans. This feature is very crucial for server applications that must allow precise thermal management. Dynamic control of fan speed according to CPU temperature ensures the best operating temperature at the lowest amount of noise possible. The flexibility for regulation of fan speeds becomes more critical as the airflow can be constrained in server chassis.
2. What is the radiator size of the NOCTUA NH-D9 TR5-SP6 4U?
Being an air cooler, the NOCTUA NH-D9 TR5-SP6 4U does not have a radiator like liquid coolers. Instead, it features two separate heatsink towers. These towers are made up of several aluminium fins that are meant to maximize the area for heat dissipation. Their overall dimensions are designed to fit into the obligatory dimensions of the 4U server chassis and ensure compatibility with server configurations. Fin density and tower size are factors critical to handling high thermal loads in this cooler.
3. Is the NOCTUA NH-D9 TR5-SP6 4U Single Tower or dual Tower?
The NOCTUA NH-D9 TR5-SP6 4U is a dual-tower CPU air cooler. The design uses two separate heatsink towers that allow enough surface area for the dissipation of heat to enhance the efficiency of the cooling, which makes it the perfect processor for server-grade CPUs with high thermal outputs. With greater areas available, heat transfer will, therefore, become efficient and cooling more.
4. What is the TDP of NOCTUA NH-D9 TR5-SP6 4U?
Noctua emphasizes compatibility and practical performance figures rather than providing a specific TDP (Thermal Design Power) value for the NH-D9 TR5-SP6 4U. The cooler has been designed for cooling the power-hungry server platforms of TR5/SP6 with an extremely high core count. Instead of advertising a specific TDP value, Noctua promotes that in high-density server environments, this cooler ensures that all components can operate under stable temperatures.
5. What is the rpm of NOCTUA NH-D9 TR5-SP6 4U fan?
NH-D9 TR5-SP6 4U operates fans that have a variable RPM rate under PWM control. The RPM range is specifically tuned to provide a balance between airflow and static pressure, both of which are important for cooling efficiency when the air is impeded inside the server chassis. The speed is dynamically adjusted according to the temperature of the CPU for maximum cooling performance with minimum noise possible. Such dynamic adjustment is paramount for stable server operation.
6. How many watts can a NOCTUA NH-D9 TR5-SP6 4U handle?
The NOCTUA NH-D9 TR5-SP6 4U is fundamentally designed for cooling the very high thermal outputs from server CPU performance in the AMD TR5/SP6 HVAC design. It has been designed as a true dual-tower and has powerful fans for dissipating lots of heat. While no single number is given, it was designed for the power-handling capability of whatever chips went onto those platforms. In short, everything about design is about the cooling of high-wattage processors.
7. Is NOCTUA NH-D9 TR5-SP6 4U quiet?
Although the coolers are intended for use in servers, where noise levels are not usually the biggest concern, Noctua has that very reasonable consideration for reducing the noise. It has fans and a heatsink designed to reduce noise where there is enough cooling performance. Install them and expect the fans then to increase their running speed, thus making it more disturbing when the loads get heavy. High on performance, but Noctua tries to keep things at a reasonable level.
8. Is NOCTUA NH-D9 TR5-SP6 4U good enough?
Designed specifically for the TR5/SP6 server platform, the NOCTUA NH-D9 TR5-SP6 4U is an excellent choice for those server systems.
