CPU Thermal Paste

What is a thermal paste?

Thermal paste, also known as thermal compound, or grease is a substance that is applied on the processor’s surface of a computer system to keep it cool by effectively transferring heat from the processor to the cooler. This is done by providing proper contact between the CPU cooler heatsink, and the processor, thus improving the heat transfer. The CPU thermal paste can be applied not only on desktops but on a laptop as well. But, installing a thermal paste in a laptop can be quite cumbersome, as disassembling a laptop is much more complicated than a desktop, where you just remove the CPU cooler and apply the paste.

There are two types of CPU thermal pastes, conductive, and non-conductive. The conductive pastes have liquid metals such as silver, copper, and aluminium inside. Whereas, the non-conductive options come with zinc and silicone. The conductive ones are known as liquid metal thermal paste and are considered superior in terms of performance. However, these are not only expensive but are also a bit risky to use, as if it spills out, then it can electrically short the pins it touches.

PC Thermal paste price in India starts from a few hundred rupees for the basic, non-branded ones. But, it can be a bit expensive and depending on the brand, and the quantity of the compound you are getting, it can be in the thousands. But, if you are looking for the best thermal paste in India, then that is a price you have to pay. That does not necessarily mean that all branded options are expensive. DeepCool, and Cooler Master thermal paste, for example, are quite affordable, and we all know how reputed these two brands are in the PC industry. But, these brands have more expensive options as well, which perform better. Other brands such as Arctic, Noctua, and Thermal Grizzly are popular brands as well when it comes to these pastes.
