SSD (Solid State Drive) is a type of storage device that is used in computers. The main reason for which this type of storage device is popular is the speed. SSD, or Solid State Drives are significantly faster than HDD, or Hard Disk Drives. This results in faster loading times, and opening times for everything that is on the solid-state drive. So, having one such solid-state drive in your PC build is definitely worth having. What about the price though? SSD price in India currently starts from around 2000 INR for 128GB and can go all the way up to tens of thousands for 1TB and larger options.
How to choose the perfect SSD?
When it comes to choosing one, there are various things that one has to take into consideration. This includes the storage space, budget, interface, requirements, etc. Depending on those, one should decide which SSD should be going for.
Factors to consider while buying:
Storage Size: The first thing that you should consider while getting a new SSD, is the amount of storage space do you need on it. This would change from person to person. Some would be just fine with 128GB or 250GB options, whereas, some would need 1TB. It all depends on your requirements.

If you are planning on just keeping the operating system, then just 128GB is fine. If you want to have very few frequently-used applications and games on top of the operating system,  then 250GB is fine. However, if you are planning on having a good number of games, and applications, then 1TB is what you need. Needless to say, the larger the storage space, the more expensive it is.

Interface: Another thing to consider is the interface of your SSD. If you are looking for exceptional performance, and budget is not an issue, then NVME drive is for you. However, if you want it to be as cheap as possible, then SATA is what you should be going with. NVME Gen4 is the fastest option currently, and also the most expensive option out there.

Form Factor: Depending on your preference, and compatibility, you might have to go with a different form factor. In terms of form factor, you primarily have two choices, 2.5-inch form factor, or M.2. For M.2 SSD, you would need an M.2 slot on your motherboard. And, for 2.5-inch, you would need a power cable connected to the PSU, and a SATA cable connected to the motherboard. So, if you are planning on getting M.2 ensure that your motherboard has a M.2 slot for it.
Is it worth having a Solid State Drive?
Absolutely, once you start using a solid-state drive, you would never want to go back to using a Hard Disk Drive. Just having the operating system on the SSD would make a massive difference in terms of system responsiveness. This would result in an overall better, responsive, and more fluid user experience. And, the best part is that for this you would merely have to spend a couple of thousand rupees.
